This custom black walnut live edge shelf is handcrafted to order at Riverside Workshop in your choice of length, from 2 feet to 8 feet. Every shelf begins as a premium solid black walnut slab, hand-selected for grain, figure, and live edge character before being machine flattened to a perfectly level surface and hand sanded through to 220 grit for a smooth, gallery-quality finish.

Rubio Monocoat Finish

Every shelf leaves our shop finished with Rubio Monocoat, a premium eco-friendly hardwax oil that is one of the most respected wood finishes in professional woodworking. Unlike polyurethane coatings that sit on top of the wood surface, Rubio Monocoat bonds with the wood fibers at a molecular level — providing exceptional protection against moisture, marks, and daily use while keeping the wood looking and feeling completely natural. The result is a shelf that is as durable as it is beautiful, with a finish that can be spot-repaired and refreshed without stripping the entire surface.

Hardware Options

Two mounting hardware options are available at time of order:

Floating shelf hardware provides a clean, concealed mount where the shelf appears to float directly off the wall with no visible brackets. A minimal, contemporary look that works well in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, and bedrooms where a seamless aesthetic is the priority.

Industrial black pipe hardware provides an exposed pipe bracket mount with a raw, urban character. Black steel pipe against solid black walnut is one of the most requested combinations in home design right now — particularly popular for kitchen shelving, home bar shelving, and living room display shelves. The hardware is pre-fitted before shipping so your shelf arrives ready to mount.
